The Ring-necked Duck is a small diving duck. The male can be easily identified by the purplish black gleaming head and the signature white ring across the front of the bill. Unlike other species of diver ducks, the Ring-necked duck can commonly be found on smaller bodies of water such as beaver ponds, marshes and even cattle ponds.
